Since I reviewed Nexenta the other day I decided to also review NexentaStor. NexentaStor is the Commercial distro based off of Nexenta and alot more. NexentaStor is a software based NAS and iSCSI solution. Here are some of the nice features of NexentaStor

  • Unlimited incremental backups or 'snapshots'
  • Snapshot mirroring (replication)
  • Block level mirroring ('CDP')
  • Integrated search
  • Inherent virtualization
  • Thin provisioning
  • Ease of use of the ZFS file system
  • and much more....

I decided to check out Nexenta Core 2.0 Alpha based on Ubuntu/Hardy Repository and OpenSolaris Nevada 85 build plus patches. I got the core installed with an old school install approach. I'm definitely going to be checking into this OS a little more in the future as well as NexentaStor..

Here I will introduce to you OpenSolaris 2008.11 PreRelease based on Nevada 98.. I've been using OpenSolaris for the past couple of months and though the only thing that impresses me so far is ZFS and LiveUpgrade, I continue to use it out of necessity for the company I work for.
